Cedar Shake Roof Moss Treatment on Vancouver Island

Roof Labs Canada provides free cedar roof assessments that evaluate shake integrity, remaining life expectancy, moss/lichen coverage, and treatment suitability. In general, cedar roofs with less than 25% curling or structural failure are good treatment candidates.

We use oil-based penetrating biocide formulations specifically developed for cedar substrate. These include a wood preservative component (boron-based compounds) that conditions cedar fibre while eliminating biological growth — unlike water-based formulations that can raise wood grain.

Low-pressure water rinse removes loose surface debris but leaves all biological root structures intact — regrowth begins within 60–90 days. Professional biocide treatment is the only method that achieves 2+ year biological control on cedar.
